What the maker says, and our note
The maker highlights six ingredients on its order page. Here is its claim next to what you should know.
| Ingredient | Maker's claim | Our note |
|---|---|---|
| Maca root | Energy | A root often used in energy products. |
| Grape seed | Antioxidants for the ear | A common source of antioxidants. |
| Green tea | Blood flow to the ears | Has caffeine and antioxidants. |
| Capsicum | Healthy inflammatory response | The spicy part of chili peppers. Can upset some stomachs. |
| Gymnema | Hearing support | More often found in blood-sugar products. |
| GABA | Relaxation | A calming brain messenger, also sold alone. |
The 200 mg question
All the blend items share 200 mg. That is a small amount split across more than 20 items. You can't tell how much of each one is in a dropper.
There is a plus side: small amounts mean fewer strong effects. The minus side: some items may be too low to matter. We also found no published study of Audifort itself. The maker cites general research on hearing and tinnitus.
Side effects
The maker does not list any side effects. Based on the label, here is what to keep in mind:
- Caffeine: guarana and green tea contain it. If coffee keeps you up, take Audifort in the morning.
- Stomach upset: capsicum and some plant extracts can bother a sensitive stomach.
- Sweeteners: it has stevia and xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to dogs, so keep the bottle away from pets.
Stop taking it and call your doctor if you feel unwell.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take prescription drugs. Some items in the blend, such as gymnema, coleus, ginseng, L-tyrosine and L-tryptophan, are known to interact with certain medicines. That includes drugs for blood sugar, blood pressure, mood, thyroid or blood thinning. Bring the label with you.
Who should skip it
- People who are pregnant or nursing, or under 18 (the label says to ask a doctor)
- Anyone with a medical condition, unless a doctor says it is fine
- People who are very sensitive to caffeine
- Anyone with sudden hearing loss, ear pain or ringing in one ear: see a doctor first
How to take it
The maker says one full dropper a day, about 15 drops, under the tongue or in water or juice. The label allows one or two droppers. Don't take more than that.
